Feathered Wedding Cake

This Saturday I went to my third course at cakes 4 fun, but this time at a more advanced level.

I have never tiered a cake or used a lot of the skills involved in making a cake look as flawless as this one. But I loved every minute!

I've always used dummies when doing decoration in courses before, but this time I used a real cake which was an added bonus because we could eat it afterwards!

With the feathers I used rice paper strips cut to points and curled to give the effect. Very tricky with such a brittle material.

It was a huge eye opener into the time and effort put behind such a creation, but cannot wait for the challenge in the future!

Enjoy!

(please excuse the backgrounds, as I did not have my usual setup!)

Christening Cake

A couple of years ago I did a basic cake course in a local shop in Ewell. It was a good course and I learnt all my basics skills I need which have proved extremely valuable whilst pursuing my dream.

I decided to go for the colour blue for a "boy" baby on my cake and wrote it to my father with his birthday on top just to thank him for driving and picking me to and from the courses, which he loved!

I used a baby mould to create the figure on top and a special rolling pin with teddy bears embedded in helped to make the effect on the blanket.

The frilling on the edge was quite tricky to get to stay up, but it gives the cake a softness which is perfect for the occasion.

Some of it looks a bit ropey as it was the first time I used dust colour and writing in icing, but 2 years on I'm definitely better and improving all the time :D

Enjoy!

Stacked Cupcakes

I did an evening course at cakes 4 fun again. This time I did stacked cupcakes! Soooo pretty but unfortunately got ruined on the way home as there is no proper box for these, and the box I made was rubbish and basically broke them. Anyway if you look past the flaws you can see how georgeous they are!

Enjoy!

Ultimate Cupcake course

I've just completed my first cupcake course at cakes 4 fun in Putney, so I can start realising my dream of being a professional cake maker!

Here are all the pictures of the cakes I made. Some I love......others I had spare things left over and just bunged them on :-P

ENJOY!
